Description

ATHENA is Ultradyne’s linear compensator. Muzzle rise has been optimized, with gas vented at an angle then forward. This sends a lower percent of sound and gasses back towards the shooter, optimizing sonic performance over recoil. Athena gives a cleaner appearance for a sleek look compared to traditional brakes and is the most cost-effective way to upgrade a rifle to the Dynamount Sighting System. Like all Ultradyne muzzle devices, a timing nut is included for easy installation ( Crush washer for the .350 caliber). Available in the following; .223  / 5.56, .308 / 7.62 and 350 Legend.

    1. Inspect and clean threads on barrel and muzzle device.
    2. Place the crush washer cone forward over the muzzle threads, then thread the muzzle device up against the crush washer.
    3. Hand tighten the muzzle device and note that crush must be flush with barrel shoulder and fully depress the detent.
    4. Using a wrench, turn the muzzle device 1/4 turn, then continue to tighten to index properly. If the muzzle device is tightened past desired position, start over with a new crush washer.
    5. Check concentricity with a bore alignment rod.
    6. Test fire at 25 yards into a paper target backed up by a minimum 15' x 15' safety berm capable of safely stopping projectiles. Verify the ability to shoot groups and inspect for baffle strikes for all loads that will be used.

Very pleased with this linear compensator. We have put many rounds through this and is easily as proficient at protecting shooters to your sides as any of the the competitors products. At nearly half the price of other devices and performance being the same, it is a great choice. Also, with some of the handguards being used on SBR or CQB set ups, this will fit easily inside of a smaller diameter guard.

  2. Redneck

I can’t say enough good things about this muzzle device. My pistol upper started with an A2 style flash hider, everyone hated to be near me when shooting. The percussion off my shots were intense to say the least, I installed the athena. And it tamed the beast.
As a closing I’d recommend this to anyone who needs an option for short barreled applications. It does the job of changing the blast so you don’t feel it on your face. People won’t complain about getting hit by the shock off your firearm.
And lastly one of my favorite things is in the fall when the leaves are on the ground. Is going out shooting and watching them flee from the blast of my shots.

I don’t usually write reviews, but I felt I had to. Firstly: lack of crush washer is easily the future and I adore this compensator for that. My life is easy especially when I need to move it to another barrel.

This comp is smaller than you’d expect, especially the 7.62 version. It still works wonders. I currently have it installed inside of a BCM quad rail and it sits flush. No contact on the inside of the rail. 11′ barrel and this comp is flush with a 12″ rail.

As for performance. It takes 7.62×39 and goes from a massive fireball that I used to have, to a loud report all directed foward. Gone are the days I used to get manhandled by the muzzle blast of this ak pistol gone wrong. It’s a pleasure to shoot now and it’s thanks to one of the best linear comps on the market.

The difference between this and the A2 is incredible. Just a pleasure to shoot. All the everything goes down range and the guys at the gallery aren’t complaining about the perceived cannon going off next to them. I was wearing basic 3M over head ear muffs and 5.56 was 100% tamed. Will be putting one of these on my next few builds. I want to shoot a few at night to see what it does to flash.

    Price is right.

The timing nut was little too thick to allow the muzzle device to thread. Simple enough to grab another timing nut (although not as nice as the one it comes with), and now that I’m using it, I can only say good things. It sends everything (gasses and a little boom) downrange and makes shooting my rifle a complete joy.

350 Legend Athena, Installed on a Ruger American Predator in 350 Legend

If they could thin out the timing nut a bit it would be a 5 star review.

  6. Nick (verified owner)

My 16″ AR308 was spraying gas out like crazy with the brake that I had on it. Not to mention the concussion blasting out the sides was not making my fellow shooters very happy. I wanted something that could send all of that gas and concussion down range, and the Athena did the trick. It doesn’t do much for recoil, but I have noticed that it does a good job at keeping muzzle rise in check. Highly recommended for a more comfortable rifle shooting experience.

  7. Derpy T

My Ruger American Ranch in 7.62×39 used to be overly loud and concusive to stand next to when it went off. However, this was tamed by the .308/7.62 Athena linear compensator. The muzzle blast has been significantly reduced, I think it’s safe to say that this product effectively does what it is supposed to do.
